About Me:
I have the opportunity to be an assistant coach with TEAM 9’s this year. I have played softball most of my life and coached adult sports. I have always been interested in coaching youth softball but was hesitant to join an organization…until I was introduced to TEAM Nebraska!!! J
Sports Bio:
I tried basically every youth sport available as a kid but, there was really only one sport I discovered a tremendous passion for…fast pitch softball! I started out like most girls playing YMCA/Little League and then made the transition to select fast pitch. I primarily played SS/2nd/3rd throughout my fast pitch career. Ironically, I was selected to play with a Team Nebraska one-tournament team in 1996 (prior to Darren developing TEAM organization). I was also honorable mention for all state during my varsity softball career at Northwest High School. And despite the fact that I’m getting old, I have been playing class D women’s slow pitch softball, bowling in a league, playing sand volleyball, and playing indoor soccer (soccer’s only every once in a while because it requires way too much running for my liking).
Coaching Philosophy:
Looking back on my softball career, I can only imagine how much of a difference playing for an organization like TEAM Nebraska would have made. My biggest regret from my fast pitch career was passing up the opportunity to play in college because I had already been offered a full ride academic scholarship. I played with numerous talented young ladies that did not go on to play in college for various reasons but, I think one of the primary reasons was because our teams forgot how to have fun while competing! With that said, my mission is to ensure the young ladies I have the privilege to help coach always have fun, enjoy themselves, and finish their softball careers with no regrets!
During the fall 2011 season I observed several games and the coaches with TEAM Nebraska are truly amazing! The coaches and fantastic TEAM family atmosphere have been a huge inspiration to me as I’m transitioning from player/adult coach to youth coach. One of my favorite coaching quotes is, “As players get older it’s certainly true that talent can make a difference. But…talent still has to be coached. An athletic player under a poor coach will never achieve her full potential. However, average talent can achieve superior levels under the guidance of a great coach.” My goal as a coach is to be a difference maker not only in a player’s softball career but, also a positive female role model as they develop into strong, beautiful, proud, and successful young women.
